Hi everyone
you won't believe how happy i am i stambled onto this site 1bounce . My name is Megs and My standies name is Joe. Ive broken him into the saddle and we have been working on our progress for two years. He's a beuatiful 9 yr old gelding retiered about well two years ago.
haven't figured out how to put the pic up here yet but will keep trying.
My biggest question is could anyone recommend a good place around Parkridge or south brisbane for training and classes? and organisations to get invovled in? Joe is my first horse so i have enever been involved in pony clubs, but no one seems to really understand how to re-train these lovely horses and have been searching for such a thing.
any help would be wonderful thanks. What a Face

Welcome Ducky..get yourself along to some of the shows
mentioned on this site...some of us will be at Redcliffe this weekend & Laidley next weekend...I recommend to join AFTER so you can do the shows also..
We were members of park ridge pony club for several years
so maybe thats something to look at...
We often get together & do trail rides, gymkhanas etc
Hopefully soon I will try & organise a "standie" only training/riding clinic/session at the indoor arena at Walloon..
Enjoy the site...many really nice peeps on here

Welcome Megs and Joe!!!! Big Hug

As GAF said, we use to be members of Park Ridge Pony Club, and found them to be pretty good. I have a couple of friends that go there, can ask them to keep a look out for you if you like. I never had any problems there with anyone giving me a hard time because I rode a standie. In fact, many people admired him. One guy there has a 30+ year old standie he often takes for his daughter to ride. There was also another younger girl who rode a standie and did quite well on him!

Don't be afraid to start out not knowing anyone. I didn't know many horse people when I first started out, now I know heaps. Most horsey people are pretty helpful and friendly.

welcome to the standie site DUCKY and JOE!!!!!!!

i have the most amazing instructor, jane myers, she (as i have said on many occassions!!!!!) totally understands and loves the standie, she has been my instructor for 2 weeks now and the difference in my boy is amazing....... she is well know in these parts!!!!!! does the independent clinics, managing horses on small properties etc etc, if you wanted her details let me know.
and as far as this site goes it is awesome!!!the support, help, info and just the general friendliness is the best..... i am also on another horse forum..... yeh well ........ gets very, shall we say ????? interesting!!????? i dont bother to post...... for fear of getting shot down with my comments!!!! (which happens to be the hot topic on it at the moment).

Welcome Ducky (megs) and Joe! He sound like a lovely boy.
I used to go to ParkRidge PC and they were all right but, know nothing about Standy training.

I have found that unless you find that special instructor, you need to look for someone with an open mind who'll look past the breed and try different approaches.

Good luck, we're here for a whinge and a laugh XD

Thanks everyone. I don't think i have ever been made to feel so welcome. Razz I have also tried to post on other forums and trying to talk to people and ask how to train and standardbred is like talking to someone who knows everything but nothing at the same time, its very hard and most don't seem to understand. So thank you again i couldn't stop smiling when i read the posts. I'd love to know of any names and trainers that could help me out. been kinda doin it on my own and have got the point where i know he is capable of so much but i just don't have the know how. and he deserves the best. hehe thanks so much again.

Welcome Ducky & Joe - Great to see another Standie lover join the site. I really recommend joining AFTER and getting along to the shows - we are just starting out with Laidley out first show after registering. Will be great to catch up with some members on the site. I tend to yak a fair bit so don't feel bad if you don't read all my post Laughing . It is great to see so many taking on the standies, we have three now and have found them to be the most kind hearted and teachable charaters.

Welcome

Welcome Ducky, there seems to be more and more people coming out of the woodworks around the logan area, I've found Park Ridge quite a nice club but I'm not such a huge personal fan, like any pony club the standardbred always is looked apon as inadquete but don't let that get you down no matter what club or show you are at there will be those same few people they are just jealous I think.
